Ricky Romain and Jon Sterckx ~ sitar and tabla
Review: On Saturday evening, at a concert arranged by the Friends of St Andrews, an audience in Colyton was royally entertained by Ricky Romain and Jon Sterckx playing a programme of Indian music on sitar and tabla. They gave us two ragas, the Rag Bhopali and the Raga Bhairavi.
In the interval they explained some of the structure of the pieces, and the relationship between the players and the roles played by their instruments.
The audience responded most enthusiastically, and there were many questions for the performers, and much discussion. For those for whom this was a first personal contact with such material, the exposure to such different music proved especially stimulating and enjoyable.
