FoStA TALKS' forthcoming guest, Iby Knill plays an active part in Holocaust Memorial Day...

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day...

This makes it an important time to reflect on the dreadful legacy of those unspeakable times. But speak about them we must, just to prevent anything ever, ever happening like that again.

As you probably know, Iby Knill will be coming to Colyton as a speaker in our lecture series FoStA TALKS on 12 March, 2014. There is so much to tell you about Iby, that it is hard to know where to start. The first thing to mention is that it is very difficult to keep up with her boundless energy. She may be ninety years old, but her activity knows no limits.

We are very lucky and honoured to have her as a guest. She will not only tell her own story, but will also take your questions. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all , so please support us.

Yes, Iby's talk is tough to hear in parts, so it is especially humbling to know that she actually lived through it all. One fact that came across to me very quickly is Iby's charm, wit and humour. I have been lucky enough to communicate with her via email and every one of the messages raises a smile or a laugh for me. She may have been through hell, but it doesn't stop her enjoying life now.

You can find the Iby of modern times smiling everywhere and she recently entertained us on BBC2's Eggheads to great praise.

This morning, Iby was a guest on BBC Radio 2's Jeremy Vine show. You can listen again on BBC iPlayer. Her interview starts at about 1hr 10mins in to the programme.
